We are thrilled to ANNOUNCE that Blue Purple and Scarlet is launching our oil of the week program.  This week’s feature is Helichrysum Italicum from 10/31/18 thru 11/8/18.

Our goal is to bring good, relevant and fresh information to our readers consistently.  Many of the featured oils will be somewhat less common than what you see normally on our pages.

So starting this week, 10/31/18 thru 11/8/18, you will see the featured essential oil.

 

There are four  different types of Helichrysum that are made into essential oils.

Helichrysum bracteiferum
Helichrysum gymnocephalum
Helichrysum odoratissimum
Helichrysum italicum.

Our focus post today is about just one type, Helichrysum Italicum

 

Helichrysum Italicum Essential Oil – What Is It

Helichrysum is a plant/flower native to the Mediterranean region. It is known to be part of the Asteraceae plant family.  The plants have a sweet smelling alluring fragrance.  Helichrysum’s flowers are bright yellow, white, and orange and yellow but never blue.

It is well know for it’s medicinal value, much dating back for thousands of years.  It’s more popular in countries like Spain, Portugal, and Italy.  The native people have known and practiced for years what modern science is starting to catch up with now.

Helichrysum italicum is a flowering plant of the daisy family Asteraceae. It grows on dry, rocky, sandy ground around the Mediterranean. Common names include curry plant, starflower, dwarf everlast and immortelle.

The leaves and flowers are the most used parts.   They are steam distilled to make it’s healing benefits available around the world.

Helichrysum can be grown as a half-hardy annual in the United States.  They would do best in Department of Agriculture zones 2 to 10.  Plants can also be cultivated to grow as a perennial in zones 5 to 10 where the weather is warmer.

Our featured oil of the week is a pure essential oil.  It can be traced back to it’s original source.  For that reason we can be sure it is of the highest quality.

 

What is Helichrysum Italicum (Immortelle) Used For

Modern science have studied the properties of Helichrysum essential oil for the past several decades.  There is now scientific proof that it lives up to it’s claims.

Their research confirmed it to be a medical plant.  It’s antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, anticoagulant, antiallergenic, and antimicrobial.

Helichrysum Italicumhelps helps cure herpes and cystitis.  The effects of nicotine is neutralized, it relieves congestion, headaches, and menstrual pain.

*Blend with Geranium, Lavender, Rose, Lime, Neroli, Orange, Petit Grain, Sage, or Ylang-Ylang oil.

  1. I LOVE essential oils! This article was very informative and made me think more about how many uses oils have. I didn’t realize that helichrysum was such a good solution for acne. My skin is very dry which makes me nervous to use chemical products that tend to dry out the skin. This seems like a great solution. Thanks for the information!

      Helichrysum Italicum is used very extensively for skin problems and with very good results.
      Consider a blend where you mix one of the compatible carrier oils with the Helichrysum for sensitive
      areas of the skin.

  2. I had no idea there were so many health benefits to Helichrysum Italicum Essential Oil. As I was reading, I was more and more impressed. My wife and I have a diffuser, I’m not sure if it can take essential oils but this would be a nice addition!

      Thank you for your comments.

      Absolutely you can use the Helichrysum Italicum essential oil in your diffuser. Just use 1-2 drops in a your diffuser reservoir and fill with water. You can always add another drop but you can’t remove it once it’s mixed in.
